Where were you a year ago today?

As March winds up here in Chicago, there is a faint glimmer of spring that brings memories of patio brunches and summer festivals. It's a great time to take stock of where we are in our goals.

Being a business owner - and simply a woman living in a bustling city - means there's always somewhere to go and more to do. It's easy to feel like you're swimming upstream, and that means it's important to stop and give yourself credit for the progress you've made.

My go-to thought when I feel the Chicago-winters-are-forever blues: where was I a year ago today? What have I accomplished?

I'm the kind of person that relaxes best when I have a full day of goals that I've crossed off the list. This year, I've turned my doula business into an agency. I've maintained solid friendships and spent time with my lovely nephew. I've gained some serious cooking skills (I'll tell you about the pork chop another time). I've helped many families transition into life with a newborn. It seems that while 2015 was the year of investment, 2016 is the year of results.

That makes the sun shine a little brighter.
